Visitor arrivals up and up!
THA Chief Secretary Hon. Kelvin Charles, left, and second from right, Tobago Tourism Agency Ltd CEO Louis Lewis, welcome the Captains, First Officer and crew of the first Sunwing flight to Tobago in December 2018.

Tobago’s tourism industry recorded the highest increase in stayover arrivals in nine years. Statistics revealed that there were 19,542 international stayover arrivals in 2019, an 8.2% increase over 2018.

In January 2020, stayover arrivals amounted to 2,805 visitors, compared to 2,303 in January 2019; representing an increase of 21.8% or 502 visitors.

Last year the Canadian Market was a significant factor in the overall growth recorded. In December 2018, the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) was able to successfully negotiate direct airlift from Canada to Tobago, for the first time in the island’s history. As a result, leisure carrier Sunwing Airlines was engaged and was responsible for the majority of Canadian visitors to Tobago last year.

In addition to growth from the Canada market in 2019, stayover arrivals from Germany and the UK also increased by 12% and 6.7%, respectively.
