Coaches Trained To Harness Talent

Coaches and sport development officers in Tobago are now better prepared to develop the island’s future sportsmen and women.

The coaches recently participated in a programme, Kids Athletics, designed to provide the skills to teach children the fundamentals of sport. The session was hosted by the THA Department of Sport on December 6 at the Shaw Park Hard Court conference room.

The training was conducted by the National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA). The National Gas Company (NGC) also supported the initiative.

The programme focused on the development of children in the fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing.

Director of Sport Lyndell Hoyte-Sanchez said the programme will help enhance the natural talent on the island.

“It compounds the training already received, coupled with the raw talent that so many of our local children possess, thus serving as an additional tool to enhance performance and the development of sports on the island.”
