Windward Afro Queen 2018 and Calypso Monarch

The Windward Afro Queen and Calypso Monarch competition took place on Saturday (February 10) at Cyd Gray Sporting Complex in Roxborough.

Speyside’s Gabriel Jack won the queen segment. Jack beat seven other contestants, with Roxborough Police Youth Club’s McQueena Hercules finishing second, while Moriah’s Carla Smith, who portrayed the Midnight Robber, placed third.

In the Windward Calypso Monarch competition, Giselle Washington-Fraser took first place with a powerful rendition entitled “Plenty, Plenty Talk”. Nicole Thomas placed second with her composition, “Read De Signs”, and Dillon “Dilly Suede” Thomas, who sang “Through the Eyes of a Prison Officer” was third.
