URP resumes Monday

The Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) will resume on Monday (14th October 2013) throughout Tobago following a one-month break.

Assistant Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Utilities Assemblyman Handel Beckles told Wednesday’s post Executive Council media briefing that all workers who were employed in the programme as of September 13, 2013 should report to their last place of work to resume duties.

He said the hours of work for the URP field workers are from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. while those of the office workers are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Beckles said the programme will resume with 60 projects across Tobago. He added that projects which would take more than six months would be too big for the URP.

The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) requested $70 million for the programme this year from the Central Government but received a parliamentary allocation of $19 million which was the same in fiscal 2013.
