TRHA Board installed

TRHA Board.
After more than five months of intense battling between the Tobago House of Assembly and the Minister for Tobago Development, the new Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) Board was installed. Ironically, the nine-member board chaired by Jennifer Fabien-Browne comprised the initial list of persons recommended by the THA in March of this year.

THA Chief Secretary Orville London said he was relieved as he distributed the instruments of appointment in a ceremony on Tuesday (13 September 2011). London said after a very interesting period we are now at a point where the Board selected by the THA is there to serve the people of Tobago, a service he is confident will be marked by professionalism and sensitivity.

“I wish you best. I hope that you succeed. I expect you to succeed because if you do not succeed, I failed”, London told the group, adding that the members are being called to serve at very challenging, exciting and opportunity-filled time in the Tobago. He said expectations are high because there are over 20 health centres and outreach centres across Tobago and additional facilities to be completed soon, including the new Scarborough General Hospital and the Charlotteville Health Centre.

There was an appeal for the Board to work together with the Division of Health and Social Services and other stakeholders to meet the needs of the island’s population. Secretary of Health and Social Services Claudia Groome-Duke said the Board was coming on stream to continue to build on the pillar of Tobago’s health sector development as outlined in the THA Economic Development Plan.

Jennifer Fabian-Browne is Chairman as well as Director of Business Management. Other members of the Board are: Director of Public Interest and Social Welfare and Deputy Chairman, Winfield Victor Quamina; Director of Medicine, Dr Camille Mohammed; Director of Nursing, Lystra Sebro; Director of Law, Ken Wright; Director of Finance, Kirton Daniel; Director of Industrial Relations, Lydia Peters; Director of THA Interest Pearl Wilson-Beache; and Director of THA Interest, Vanessa Boyce.
