Tobago will host the 53rd Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) in August.

It’s the CBU’s first in-person AGA since 2019. This year’s theme is ‘Media and Information Literacy’. On Monday (May 16th), the Union’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) to host the event.

The Annual General Assembly will be held from August 15th-17th. It will feature a conference day and the Caribbean Media Awards ceremony, while attendees will explore various elements of Tobago’s natural and cultural heritage through a fun day experience.

The THA is positioning Tobago aggressively in the market for conference tourism and this will be the first major conference we’ll be hosting [since the pandemic began],” Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation Councillor Tashia Burris said.

We are privileged that the CBU has chosen Tobago as the destination to have this media conference. Tobago is the perfect destination. We think that we present the best option for pleasure and business, and we know the media practitioners will be excited to come to Tobago in August.”

Chairman of the CBU LOC Richard Purcell said he’s pleased to be working alongside the Tobago House of Assembly to host the AGA on the island.

“Opening up Tobago to our members and to the international media is what we’re so excited about. The THA has come on board, and we couldn’t ask for a better partner,”

Purcell said.

This year, the Caribbean Media Awards ceremony will include new categories that highlight the contributions of content creators, including videographers and social media content producers.
