Envisioning a new Scarborough

Secretary for the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development Trevor James at the post Executive Council media briefing, Calder Hall Administrative Complex (2022).

Under the theme, “Envisioning a New Scarborough,”  the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development, will hold a series of virtual public consultations on the design for Scarborough’s redevelopment beginning on February 23rd.

The city of Scarborough is one of the Assembly’s priorities for the second quarter. The Division of Infrastructure is well on the way in preparing to do the foundation work that will ensure that the designs capture the views of Tobagonians [and]Trinidadians. Views that will ensure that we are in fact solving the problems in the city that have existed for a long time,” Infrastructure Secretary Trevor James said.

The first consultation is aimed at business owners, persons in the construction industry and services sector. On March 2nd, a second consultation will be held and will be geared towards tourism and environmental stakeholders, while the third consultation for landowners, residents of Scarborough and the general public, will take place on March 9th.

It is envisioned that when we succeed at building out this new city, it will create a number of benefits for Tobagonians and Trinidadians, and for people who come to Tobago,” he said.

These benefits will include expanded opportunities in trade and investment, as well as  improved aesthetics across Scarborough. James said this project will stimulate the economic transformation of Tobago. He indicated that the process of hosting consultations will continue until construction in Scarborough is completed.
