Aqua Warriors Medal Up

The Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors splashed their way to eight medals, at the National Short Course Age Group Championships on the weekend (July 11-15).

The team of Jacob Cox, Ornella Walker, Mosi Denoon, Dante Williams and assistant coach Rochelle Pierre competed at the Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva. They swam their way to three gold medals, four silver and one bronze.

Cox was third in the high point overall trophy for the Boys 9-10 age group. He won silver in the 100 metre breaststroke event.

Walker, a national Carifta co-captain, brought home gold, smashing the eight-year record for the 50-metre backstroke in the girls 15 and Over category. The previous record was set by Kimberly John-Williams in 2010. She also took home silver in the 100 metre backstroke, 200 metre backstroke and 50 metre freestyle events.

Denoon grabbed gold in the 18 and over men’s category in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, along with 50 metre breaststroke bronze.
