Established in 1768, the Tobago House of Assembly is the oldest political institution in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) serves as the primary governing body for the island, holding legislative responsibility for Tobago’s affairs within the national framework of Trinidad and Tobago.

What We Do
Functions of the Assembly
The THA operates under the Tobago House of Assembly Act, which defines its powers and responsibilities that are broadly categorised below:
Governance, Administration, and Planning
Core financial management, regulatory oversight, land use, and general administrative functions.
Infrastructure, Assets, and Utilities
Management of physical assets, public works, connectivity, and essential services.
Economic Development and Revenue
Promotion of commerce, industry, primary sectors (agriculture/fisheries), and taxation functions.
Natural Resources and Environmental Management
Oversight of land/marine parks, forests, conservation, and biosecurity.
Social Services and Human Development
Direct services relating to the wellbeing and education of citizens.
Culture, Heritage, and Community
