New Minister of Tourism Gerry Hadeed has described his Ministry as “facilitators of the tourism product in Tobago” and gave a commitment that a new terminal will be built at the ANR Robinson International Airport.

“I have been fully briefed by the former minister Stephen Cadiz and I am not going to change anything,” he said during his first meeting with Chief Secretary Orville London and officials of the Tourism Division, led by Secretary of Tourism and Transportation Tracy Davidson-Celestine today. (Wednesday 9th April 2014)

Hadeed said he will work closely with the Assembly to achieve greater cooperation with the Division of Tourism. He added that he was a businessman and tourism was a business, and therefore he planned to bring his experience and knowledge to the table.

Davidson-Celestine said she believed that collaboration among all concerned will be of great benefit to the tourism industry. Chief Secretary London added that he viewed the Minister as a conduit between the Assembly and the Cabinet. He also said there were some immediate issues for the Minister to deal with, including the challenges of air and sea transport.

Hadeed, a former chairman of the Airports Authority, heard of the problems being experienced at the ANR Robinson International Airport and assured everyone that he was committed to the construction of a new terminal building.
