Farmers Now Have Access to Disaster Relief Loans

A Disaster Loan Relief Programme has been established to aid farmers in their recovery from damages to their crops caused by natural disasters.

Secretary of Food Production, Forestry and Fisheries Hayden Spencer said this will help farmers recover in the event of a natural disaster.

“In the past, you know farmers would have been faced with disaster and more depend primarily on a grant from the Tobago House of Assembly; you can now go to the ADB (Agricultural Development Bank) and go through the process of obtaining a disaster relief loan,” Spencer said.

There are other loan opportunities being offered by the ADB to farmers, according to the Food Production Secretary.

“The ADB also would have indicated their interest in facilitating farmers in a financial arrangement who are interested in conducting surveys on their lands.”
