Chief Secretary Responds to Concerns

THA Chief Secretary and Secretary of Food Production, Forestry and Fisheries (FPFF), the Honourable Ancil K. Dennis, wishes to advise that he has reviewed and rescinded his decision to appoint former FPFF Secretary, Hayden Spencer, as his Advisor in that Division.

The Chief Secretary made the announcement yesterday (February 17th) during the Post Executive Council Virtual Media Briefing at the Victor E. Bruce Financial Complex in Scarborough.

Chief Secretary Dennis revised his position, in keeping with his mindset of attentiveness and in light of feedback from the general public.

“Initially I felt that Mr. Spencer, having worked in the Division for 8 years, was the ideal choice as Advisor on a month-to-month basis. It was my firm belief that he would have had the institutional knowledge necessary to assist me in my capacity as Secretary. However, after listening to the voices of Tobagonians and paying attention to their concerns, especially those in the farming community, I have decided to rescind the decision,” he stated.

Mr. Spencer was Secretary of Food Production during the period 2017-2021 and, prior to that, served as Assistant Secretary in the Division of Agriculture, Marine Affairs, Marketing and the Environment from 2013-2017.

On February 1st, 2021, Chief Secretary Dennis assumed responsibility for that Division along with his current portfolio of Secretary of Tourism, Culture and Transportation.
