Tobago Contributes to Workplace Policy

The Occupational Safety and Health Authority and Agency of Trinidad and Tobago held the third session of the Working Group on Draft National Occupational Safety and Health Policy at the Magdalena Grand Resort and Spa on May 3.

During the launch, Secretary of Community Development, Enterprise Development and Labour Marslyn Melville-Jack said safety and health at work is a high priority for stakeholders including governments, employers, workers and unions.

She said occupational accidents and diseases can impact productivity, competitiveness and organizational reputation.

According to International Labour Organization statistics, 1,000 people die every day from occupational accidents, and 6,500 from work-related incidents daily. Melville Jack said the Tobago House of Assembly is committed to minimizing such incidents by providing safe work environments.
