Sunwing To Fly In

A flight from Toronto, Canada to Tobago will begin operations next month.

This after Sunwing Tours and the Tobago House of Assembly agreed to a partnership that will bring flights to the island. The first flight is scheduled for December 20. Sunwing is a key partner in the Rex chain of properties in the Caribbean, which includes Rex Turtle Beach Hotel, Tobago.

This was agreed at a meeting among Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles, Secretary of Tourism, Culture and Transportation Nadine Stewart-Phillips, Tobago Tourism Agency (TTAL) Chairman Dr. Sherma Roberts, TTAL CEO Louis Lewis and Eric Rodriguez, the Executive President of Partner Development at Sunwing Tours.

“Sunwing presents a golden opportunity for Tobago, given its expanded operations that include tour operations, airline operations and hotel operations,” Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles said.

Rodriguez said Canadians will leave significant tax revenue when travelling to Tobago, through the booking of hotels and excursions, as well as transfers. Toronto is one of the five largest cities in North America.

Secretary of Tourism, Culture and Transportation Nadine Stewart-Phillips said the new partnership is a great opportunity for the island.

Stewart-Phillips said: “Sunwing represents the level of partnership we are aiming to achieve as a Division for our tourism product. Tourism is a competitive industry, however, with the right partnerships and linkages and now our new branding strategy, Tobago will be in a very strong position”.
