Sport Grounds Get Lighting Upgrades

Several communities in Tobago have the benefit of lighted sporting grounds that allow them to host activities at night.

But this has also brought the challenge of lights being left on all night.

At yesterday’s (July 11) post Executive Council media briefing, Secretary of Sport Jomo Pitt said a number of these grounds are being repaired. They are also having their lighting systems upgraded to LED lights, which will reduce the cost of lighting.

The project is being done in two phases. Phase One will feature works at grounds in Bon Accord, Buccoo, Mason Hall, and Signal Hill. Phase Two includes the Calder Hall, Charlotteville, Plymouth, and Speyside communities.

“Once we switch over to the LED lighting, it gives us the option to put timers on them,” Pitt said.

The Sport Secretary added: “It’s very disheartening to see lights being left on throughout the night,” Pitt said. “Gone is the era when individuals will be more responsible for such, as a result we have to go that way.”
