The Mechanical Unit of the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment walked away with the title during the recent internal “Recyclemania” competition.

The competition, which started in June, is part of the Department of the Environment’s ongoing efforts to create environmental awareness and sensitivity across the island.

In all, nine units competed within the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment. They used recyclable materials, such as plastics, to create artistic designs with a purpose.

The units implemented a waste management system for recycling plastic bottles. Throughout the programme, they collected plastic bottles and other materials to create a design that made recycling an enjoyable experience.

Environmental Officer II Deon Brebnor said he was pleased with the entries from the units and the awareness and enthusiasm it brought.

“This whole exercise from the Department of Environment side was one where we saw a lot of value in coming under the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment,” Brebnor stated.
