Good Progress on School Repairs

Repairs at the island’s primary and secondary schools are 12 percent completed.

The School Repair Programme began on July 23, and Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles said by Friday (August 10), an estimated 40 per cent of the work should be completed.

“…Certainly we are hoping that by the last week of August, 100 per cent of the schools would be completed,” Charles said at yesterday’s (August 8) weekly post Executive Council media briefing.

Charles said the new Scarborough RC School will be commissioned and opened by the end of August.

“The school was completed within the allocated time and budget,” Charles said. “Construction was supposed to have taken place within a planned time frame of 18 months.”

While the original estimate for the project was $85 million, only $83 million has been spent to date.
