Division of Education Responds to ‘Walk Out’ At Signal Hill Secondary School

The Division of Education, Innovation and Energy confirms that approximately 64 teachers ‘walked off’ the premises at the Signal Hill Secondary school today in protest of inadequate security.

Chief Secretary and Chief Secretary of Education Kelvin Charles, Administrator Jacqui Job, and Schools Supervisor 111 Sherry-Anne Rollocks-Hackett, met with the Principal and Vice Principal of Signal Hill Secondary School today (May 03) to gain clarity on the issue.

It was highlighted at the meeting that the school has not been consistently staffed with adequate security personnel by the provider, National Maintenance Training and Security Company (MTS) and the Division has since been brought up to date on the nature of these fluctuations in the provision of security services at Signal Hill.

The Division confirms that action is being taken to resolve the relationship with MTS and the provision of security services. Chief Secretary and Secretary of Education Kelvin Charles, has also requested an investigation into the provision of security services at all secondary schools in Tobago that are being provided with security services by MTS.
