Communities Urged to Get Disaster Ready

“Make Yourself a Hard Target this Hurricane Season”.

That was the theme of a recent workshop on hurricane preparedness for Tobagonians yesterday (July 10). The workshop was hosted by the Community Development Unit of the Division of Community Development, Enterprise Development and Labour, in collaboration with the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), at the Division’s Conference Hall.

Executive members of the island’s village councils were invited to the workshop, which was aimed at increasing disaster preparedness and resilience in communities.

Participants got practical safety advice, and were encouraged to discuss exercise plans and safety measures within their organisations that would improve disaster resilience.

The initiative is creating awareness so that residents will better understand hazards that may impact their community and know what to do to be safe and mitigate damage.

They were also encouraged to take action to increase disaster preparedness and participate in community resilience planning.
