Mas takes over Scarborough


J’Ouvert in Roxborough

It was a large street party as J’Ouvert and the beginning of the two day carnival celebrations in Tobago was held in the village of Roxborough. Early Monday morning (February 27, 2017), revellers celebrated into daylight.


Winward Afro Queen Show and Calypso Monarch competition

It was a night where vibrant beauty, talent, African-influenced design and calypso came together on one stage when the 2017 Tobago House of Assembly Windward Afro Queen Show and Calypso Monarch competition took place on Saturday (February 25, 2017) at the Cyd Gray Complex. Karisse Murray of Speyside won the Windward Afro Queen Show while Nicole Thomas was crowned the Calypso Monarch.

Junior Parade of the Bands

The streets of Scarborough came alive on Saturday (February 25, 2017) with the Junior Parade of the Bands. Glittery costumes adorned the young ones who enjoyed participating and having fun during the Tobago Carnival.


Kings and Queens of Carnival 2017

Onlookers flocked the streets of Scarborough on Wednesday night (February 22) to see the spectacular Kings and Queens of the Band. Bright and extremely large costumes, music, and dance were on full display for the judging of the Kings and Queens of the Bands.

Gift crowned Tobago Calypso Monarch 2017

The audience enjoyed a night of entertaining social commentary, political picong and humour from 10 calypsonians at the Shaw Park Complex on Thursday night (February 23). Alex Gift (Tobago Chalkie) was named the 2017 Tobago Calypso Monarch winner after beating out nine other contenders including last year’s winner Nicole Thomas. Gift took home a prize of $100,000 tt. Here are the results:

  • Alex Gift: First place winner Alex Gift sings “Deh not well” for the win.
  • Nicole Thomas: Second place winner Nicole Thomas entertains the crowd with the presentation of her song “One Week”.
  • Wendy Garrick: Tied for second place, Wendy Garrick sings “Fly Trinbago”.
  • Henry Wright: Fourth place winner Henson Wright ‘Calypso Prince- sings “Belt Tightening’ at the Shaw Park Complex.
