Brand New Branding

Destination Tobago is being rebranded. Secretary of Tourism, Culture and Transportation Nadine Stewart-Phillips said the sector will play a major role in revitalising the national economy.

“One of the first steps in this new dispensation commenced with the establishment of two separate entities, [which] is to lead the revitalisation of tourism in respective jurisdictions, an entity for Tobago and an entity for Trinidad,” the Tourism Secretary said.

Stewart-Phillips said the Tobago Tourism Agency has been in talks within the industry on implementing a three-year road map for growth in the sector. This follows public consultations, which were held on the island last year.

“A period of extensive research was carried out by an international company in our source markets,” Stewart-Phillips revealed, “and from these consultations and research, various gaps were identified, of which proper branding of the destination was a deficiency.”

Based on the research, the Division will adopt a “Go to Market” strategy to position Tobago as a preferred tourism destination.
