The Division is mandated to provide and maintain sporting facilities across Tobago, as well as the development of sporting programmes and support to sporting organisations. It is also responsible for providing efficient service and support systems for Tobago’s youth, through social education and holistic development so as to empower and maximise potential.

DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH AFFAIRS

The Department of Youth Affairs aims to provide efficient service and support systems by focusing on the following areas of youth development; empowerment, participation, volunteerism and capacity building.

UNITS

  • District Servicing Unit: EXT. 1034
    Field Work including links between the DYA to the communities manifested though our Youth centres. Supports and encourages youth groups, community projects and other avenues of personal development. There are currently five (5) youth centres: Pembroke, Signal Hill, Bethel, Castara and Roxborough.
  • Tobago Youth Development Institute (TYDI): EXT 1031
    This Unit includes the management of youth development research, training of youth and youth workers, linking of Tobago’s youth to overseas training and development opportunities
  • Project Implementation Unit: EXT 1030
    This unit oversees the planning and implementation of the Department programmes and project ensuring that they are in synch with the Youth Policy. They also engage mobile youth healthy educational lifestyle programme.

MAJOR PROJECTS INCLUDE:

World of Work, Capacity Building, Youth Awards, Roundtable Discussions.

DEPARTMENT OF SPORT

The provision and maintenance of sporting facilities, as well as the development of sporting programmes and support to sporting organisations is also under the remit of the Division.

UNITS INCLUDE:

  • Facilities Management.
    Responsible for the maintenance of various sporting facilities and recreational grounds.
  • Sport Development Programmes.
    This unit bring the technical and physical knowledge to the sporting organisations and athletes, from amateur to elite.
  • Lalonde Sport Development Fund.
    This fund provides financial assistance to national, high performance and elite athletes.

MAJOR PROGRAMMES INCLUDE

THA Sport Awards, THA Sport Camp, District Games, Capacity Building of the Sporting Organisation and Clubs.
