The Division of Community Developments and Culture is geared essentially towards the promotion and preservation of our cultural heritage.
MISSION: To improve the quality of life of Tobagonians through community mobilization, while preserving, promoting and appreciating our unique cultural traditions in the global environment.
In order to facilitate the execution of its programmes, the Division is divided into two main Departments – the Community Development Department and the Culture Department.
Community Development
The Community Development encourages and promotes the activities of Village Councils, Women’s Groups and other community based organizations, through carefully structured programmes of Adult education, vocational training; and art and craft instruction. This Department also has responsibility for overseeing the construction and management of all community centres through out the island.
Culture Department
The Culture Department is charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the cultural heritage of the island is preserved and transmitted to future generations. It is involved in the conduct of cultural research and training in the various art forms, at all levels of the society. The Department is also involved in the production of the annual Tobago Heritage Festival, as well as the organization of several other Arts and Music Festivals / Programmes, ensuring that there are adequate avenues for the release of cultural expressions and practices
